2013 Workshop Tracks

 

Workplace Relations, Employment Law & Risk Management of the Future

It’s never been more important to be aware of what is on the horizon for employment law and legislation. Topics in this track will help HR professionals anticipate potential liability issues, and avoid legal risk by staying current with the latest changes in labor legislation and case law. Examples of topics appropriate for this track include:  LOA, Surviving OSHA/L&I, EEOC investigations, ADA issues, conducting internal investigations, termination and exit strategies, how laws recently passed may impact the workplace, and more. Please note: HR professionals from Washington, Oregon and Alaska will be attending. If your topic focuses exclusively on one state, please note that in your submission.

 

Strategic Business Management & Organizational Effectiveness of the Future

Organizations need to "work smarter" and incorporate innovative ideas and practices to “business as usual”. This track is designed to provide attendees with information that will enable them to maximize employee performance and create increased business value in a changing business environment. Examples of topics appropriate for this track include:  strategic planning, aligning HR to business strategies, change management, technology, social networking, financial literacy, solutions to declining HR budgets, organization restructuring, and issues surrounding mergers & acquisitions.

 

Talent Acquisition & Development of the Future

The world of work has changed and will continue to do so at an even more rapid pace. Employees expect more from a day's work than simply a day's pay. They want challenge, recognition, a sense of accomplishment, worthwhile tasks and meaningful relationships with their managers and co-workers. This track focuses on meeting the needs of the future workforce through relevant and innovative talent acquisition and development practices.  Example of topic areas appropriate for this track include: social media in hiring and development, retention strategies for high performers, goal setting, problem solving strategies, leadership and employee development, managing workforce diversity, work/life balance, flexible work schedules, performance management, conflict resolution, onboarding, engagement, and recognition.

 

Total Rewards of the Future

From plan design to cost containment, this track will provide attendees with information to leverage total rewards to achieve superior organizational performance in tomorrow’s workplace. Examples of topics appropriate for this track include:  implementing sustainable reward strategies, compensation strategies to remain competitive, designing reward systems to increase employee satisfaction and avoiding common pitfalls in benefit design.

 

Workforce Planning and Analytics of the Future

Effective workforce planning is a continuous process that ensures an organization has the right number of people in the right jobs at the right time. Workforce Analytics is a hot topic focusing on data that is successfully translated into business language enabling better decision making.  Examples of topics appropriate for this track include: succession planning, workforce projections and turnover analyses, budget projections, restructuring, and techniques for communicating data into meaningful business actions.
